How Is This Interesting to You? NO ONE KNOWS.

Despite what you might assume by looking around this here blog, I am not really a "confess my deepest darkest wackiest secrets" type of person.  I'm an oversharer (duh), but I keep most of the crazy to myself.

(Are you totally freaked out now?  Like, based on the weirdness I exhibit here, does it scare you that much scarier things lurk beneath the surface?  Oh, you SHOULD be scared. *sips Tiger Blood*)

However, I have this new, ahem, obsession that I just can't for the life of me keep quiet anymore.

BUTTONS.

Yeah, I said buttons.

I don't know how it started.  As "hip" as I desperately tried to be throughout my college and immediately-post-college years, for the past few years, the old lady/hippie/crafter deep in my soul has been getting louder and louder.  She wants to get out!

It started innocently, with knitting.  Remember when people were saying knitting was "cool" because celebrities were doing it?  Yeah, it never was, but it allowed me to knit feverishly and amass a rather large scarf collection.

But now?  I am a cloth-diapering, organic-baby-food-making, sewing mama.  This upsurge of craftiness just happened to combine with my tendancy to be insanely over-prepared, and created the PERFECT STORM.  I started trolling the Internet for fun craft and rainy-day activities (YEAH.  For when J is old enough to craft.  Even though she is only 7 months old.  Heh.) and I read a blog entry where someone said how much fun her girls had sorting through her crazy-big button collection, and I was like I LOVED doing that when I was young!  MUST AMASS BUTTON COLLECTION!

I gathered together all the odds-and-ends buttons I had saved from mending kits that came with clothes, but it only made a pile this big:

Meh.

Then I found a fun little tube of random buttons at Hobby Lobby.

Only $2.99!  A bargain!  Because have you ever tried to buy buttons?  Buying two is like $3.  Ricockulous.

Then last night I started trolling the Internet for bulk buttons (Cue friends and family starting the plans for an intervention).  And I found THESE!  For $2.99!  For an entire pound!  Oh, happy day!

But the shipping is $8.  That kind of negates the awesomeness.

So what is the point of all this?  I have no idea.  Except, maybe if you know where I can get large quantities of random buttons for a low-low price, hit me up.  OR, if you want to send me buttons -- I will take them.  And I'm totally serious.  Send me buttons in the mail.  My daughter's future depends on it!!!!!

(Also, maybe my deep-dark secret is that I have an addictive personality and a slight tendancy to be dramatic.  Maybe.

  2. for the AIGA christmas sale one year we made tiny fabric covered cork boards and glued stacks of buttons onto tacks to match them and it was just so adorable.

anyway, we had a very very large amount of buttons. I /think/ Angela got giant bags of buttons at a dollar store. and they were really cool buttons too.

  5. I, too, am obsessed with buttons. It started when I decided to make all those felt flowers for the wedding, and I don't think it'll ever stop. I now pay very close attention to the buttons on clothing and shoes and everything. I need buttons (lots and lots of buttons) in my life. I'm glad this isn't an obsession that I am alone in.

  6. If you are really serious about this,I can hook you up. We have a shit ton of buttons we got in a bunch of junk from when they cleaned out my wifes grandmothers house before she moved into assisted living. I'm tired of tripping over the container and spilling them all over the garage. Might even be willing to ship them to you for free.

  7. I get excited about buttons on clothing but it hasn't escalated to a collection. I've seen jars of buttons for sale at resale stores before and garage sale-ing is around the corner.
